Glucosamine has many potential health benefits including reducing the pain and stiffness of arthritis; now glucosamine and weight loss deserve attention.

Weight loss has never been the primary health claim for glucosamine. However, in recent years researchers have begun studying the potential benefits of glucosamine, and the relationship between glucosamine and weight loss. Glucosamine has many potential benefits, including the potential to assist with glaucoma, and reduce some of the inflammation associated with irritable bowel disease.

Glucosamine and Fat Loss

According to some research there is a relationship between glucosamine and fat. Studies suggest that there may be a close relationship between sugar and fat regulation or metabolism and glucosamine. At this time there needs to be more research to understand the exact link and relationship between glucosamine and weight loss.

Gllucosamine Reduces Inflammation

The proposed research suggest that glucosamine helps reduce inflammation in the body, and in this manner glucosamine and weight loss are linked. According to some studies glucosamine may help reduce inflammation which in turn stimulates the body’s ability to lose weight more efficiently. Inflammation is tied to a host of health concerns, including chronic disease, lethargy and fatigue. Fatigue alone may prevent people from being able to exercise and lose weight.

Inflammation may also prevent the body’s natural metabolism from working properly, which may contribute to increased weight and the odds the body will pack on more pounds.

Glucosamine And Arthritis

Studies do confirm the link between glucosamine and arthritis. Glucosamine helps relieve the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis, particularly osteoarthritis of the knee. If pain and inflammation of arthritis is reduced, then glucosamine may indeed contribute to weight loss. This is because glucosamine may encourage someone that is overweight to begin exercising because they are no longer in so much pain that they cannot exercise.

Glucosamine Fat Absorption

Other claims suggest that glucosamine may absorb fat that is released through diet and exercise. These claims are not fully supported yet. There are other claims suggesting that glucosamine may stimulate fat release, but there is also not enough scientific evidence to support this hypothesis.

Glucosamine can however, improve joint flexibility. When glucosamine supplements are incorporated into part of a healthy diet and exercise program, glucosamine and weight loss theories may be justified, and proper health and wellness strategies become part of a healthy overall lifestyle and fitness program.
