Multiple Glucosamine Uses

There are many glucosamine uses based on solid clinical research and evidence investigating the use of glucosamine against knee osteoarthritis. Many of the studies of glucosamine used glucosamine preparations including glucosamine HCL and sulphate to treat chronic arthritis sufferers. Patients with severe arthritis pain benefited in some instances with daily support using up to 1,200 mg of glucosamine sulfate and 1,500 mg of HCL glucosamine.

Glucosamine Supplemental Benefits

Some research supports glucosamine uses in categories not standardized for treatment. Typically people turn to glucosamine as a joint support supplement. However recent research suggests that glucosamine uses may include treatment of TMJ. Glucosamine may relieve chronic joint pain and stiffness if taken daily for a minimum of 90-days. This relief may be ongoing. Further, glucosamine may effect positive changes including a permanent reduction in stiffness among TMJ sufferers and may even prevent joint degeneration in at-risk patients.

Glucosamine and Glaucoma

Other studies support research suggesting glucosamine may act as a preventive agent or reduce the risk of glaucoma in some at-risk patients. More research is necessary in this area.

Glucosamine and Chronic Venous Insufficiency

  • There is evidence supporting the use of glucosamine to support chronic venous insufficiency, a condition contributing to leg swelling, varicose veins and other painful problems including skin and leg ulcers.
  • Glucosamine is commonly used in Europe to treat this condition, and even prescribed in Europe for this condition.
  • There is not enough clinical evidence to firmly support these claims, the preliminary research looks promising.

Glucosamine and Inflammation

  • Other research related to glucosamine uses suggest that the reduced inflammation caused by glucosamine may be helpful for relieving inflammatory bowel disease and related gastrointestinal processes.
  • Suggests glucosamine uses may include a reduction in ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
  • Glucosamine products most helpful with regard to this condition may include N-acetyl glucosamine.

Glucosamine and Tissue Repair

  • Leg pain may also be reduced by daily supplementation with glucosamine
  • Studies also support supplementation with glucosamine following a knee surgery or other physical therapy.
  • Research suggests that glucosamine uses include improved flexibility, lubrication, and faster healing times because of the likelihood that glucosamine may promote connective tissue repair.

Glucosamine Links to Rheumatoid Arthritis

There is even some research linking glucosamine to auto-immune condition rheumatoid arthritis. While most studies have focused on osteoarthritis, some research suggest that glucosamine may benefit rheumatic sufferers. More research is needed in this area; but because glucosamine demonstrates systemic anti-inflammatory action, there is hope that facts may be uncovered to support glucosamine uses in this area of health and wellness.
